Residents of the Highland Terrace neighborhood should plan to roll their trash and recycling carts to the street starting next week, when city crews begin replacing alleys there.

The work is part of Richardson's Annual Alley Maintenance Program and will move through the neighborhood in phases, the city said Wednesday. It is scheduled to start the week of Nov. 2 and run through most of November.

Here is what the city says to expect:

  • Closed alleys. Each affected alley will be shut to vehicles until the concrete replacement is finished and the new pavement is ready to drive on.
  • Curbside pickup. Households that normally get alley collection will have trash and recycling picked up at the front curb on their regular collection days for the length of the project.
  • Notices. Homes in the work area should already have a mailed notice describing the project and its effect on alley access and solid waste service. Crews will also leave door hangers at directly affected homes before work starts.

The city's Capital Projects team is taking questions at AskRichardsonCapitalProjects@cor.gov.
