Drivers who have spent nearly two years squeezed into single lanes on Custer Parkway should see another piece of the road open this month, according to a project update the City of Richardson posted Friday afternoon.
New pavement between Lookout Road and Canyon Creek Drive is close to finished, and the city expects the southbound side of that stretch to take southbound traffic sometime in October. Once drivers move over, crews will go back to the median to plant, install irrigation and repair the grass strips along the curbs.
Streetlights out on Lookout
The same update acknowledged a separate problem for people living near the corridor: several streetlights along Lookout Drive are out. The city said it has asked Oncor to explain what knocked the lights out and when they might return, and that Oncor's contractors are still trying to pin down the cause.
As of Friday, the city said, there was no timeline for getting the power back.
Streetlights on Custer itself are being replaced as part of the project. Oncor is due to put up the permanent fixtures near the end of the project.
Where the work stands
The city laid out the rest of the schedule segment by segment:
- Pleasant Valley Drive to Lookout Road: crews are planting and irrigating the median and restoring the parkways, and expect to finish by late October.
- Canyon Creek Drive to Campbell Road: pavement replacement continues and is expected to wrap up in November, provided the weather cooperates and there are no more delays from franchise utilities.
- Overall: substantial completion is expected around the end of 2026, with smaller repairs and replacements carrying into early next year.
