Daniel Burdette is the newest member of the Richardson City Council, appointed unanimously on Sept. 28 to fill the Place 3 seat left open by Dan Barrios' resignation.
Barrios announced July 13 that he would step down to seek another elected office. The Sept. 28 meeting was his last. Under the city charter, a single council vacancy other than mayor is filled by a majority vote of the remaining members, and the council had named Burdette the lone finalist after interviewing three candidates on Sept. 21, the city's news site, Richardson Today, reported.
Barrios recused himself from the vote, as the charter requires, according to a meeting summary published Thursday by Justin Neth's Richardson Review newsletter. Burdette took the oath from City Secretary Aimee Nemer and will serve until May 1, 2027, the remainder of the term.
During public comment at the Sept. 28 meeting, one resident asked the council to address trucks from the Celestica site occupying a lane of Breckinridge Boulevard, and another shared neighborhood data tracking Amazon drone flights overhead. Council took no action on either.
