Voters across the Dallas Area Rapid Transit service area, Richardson included, can ride to the polls for free on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the transit agency announced Tuesday.

DART said every bus, train and paratransit trip will be offered at no charge on Election Day. The free service covers:

  • DART buses and light rail trains
  • the Silver Line
  • GoLink on-demand service, using promo code VOTENOV3 when booking
  • the Dallas Streetcar
  • paratransit service
  • the Trinity Railway Express

What riders need

Voters should be ready to show a voter registration card or a government-issued ID to board DART buses at no cost, according to the release.

GoLink riders who enter VOTENOV3 at checkout in the DART GoPass app will receive a free adult local day pass for Nov. 3. Paratransit riders must call 214-515-7272 to schedule their Election Day trip to get the free fare.

"Every citizen has a basic right to vote. However, transportation to get to a polling location stops far too many people from casting their ballots," Trenise Winters, DART's executive vice president and chief operations officer, said in the release.

Finding a polling place

DART pointed riders to their county elections offices to look up voting locations, listing the Collin County elections page for Plano, Richardson and Carrollton and the Dallas County elections site for other member cities. More details are at dart.org/vote.

To plan the ride, the agency suggested the Plan tool in the GoPass app, the trip planner on DART.org or DART customer service at 214-979-1111. Riders using Google Maps can enter their voting location and pick the transit option for DART directions.

DART serves 12 cities, including Richardson, and carries more than 171,000 passengers a day, according to the agency.
