Richardson's fall festival at Huffhines Park turns 50 this month. The city-produced Huffhines Harvest Fest, which started out as the Huffhines Art Trails, runs Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1500 Apollo Road.
Admission and parking are free. A few activities carry a fee and fill up ahead of time, so the sign-up windows are the thing to watch over the next two weeks.
Saturday is for dogs
Pawtoberfest, the festival's section built around pets, takes over Saturday. The schedule on the festival website includes:
- Puppy yoga, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.: $10 a person, ages 13 and up. The puppies come from Dallas RRR (Rescue, Rehab, Reform) and are available for adoption.
- Pet costume contest, noon to 1 p.m. at the Backyard Stage: $7 per pet, with prizes for the top three. Cats may enter too. Organizers say online spots usually sell out and walk-ups are not guaranteed.
- All day: a tennis ball hunt with no registration needed, a self-guided agility course, pet crafts, and on-site adoptions by the Richardson Animal Shelter.
Pets must stay leashed with an adult handler.
Sunday: costumes and a youth market
A costume contest for people, hosted by J-Si of The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday with cash prizes. Entrants must register in advance.
From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, a Kids Markets area will feature booths run by young sellers ages 5 to 17. The festival says all 2026 spots for that market are taken.
