The University of Texas Longhorn Band will hold a rehearsal ahead of the Red River Showdown at Richardson ISD's Eagle/Mustang Stadium on Friday afternoon, and the public can watch for free.

The open rehearsal runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the stadium, 1250 W. Belt Line Road, according to a notice the district posted Wednesday. Admission is free.

The band is in North Texas for Saturday's game against the University of Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park. The district's announcement says the Longhorn Band will use the session to polish the show it plans to perform at the rivalry game, and invites families and Longhorn fans to come watch.

Game day at Fair Park

Kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 10, is set for 2:30 p.m., according to D Magazine's game-day guide. The game falls during the State Fair of Texas, and the guide says that for that day only, fair parking lots open at 7 a.m., the Midway and outdoor food stands at 8 a.m. and the Cotton Bowl gates at 9 a.m.

The magazine also suggests that fairgoers who are not going to the game plan to arrive after kickoff and leave before it ends to avoid the heaviest crowds.

What the district did not say

The notice does not include parking instructions, a bag policy or any limit on seating for Friday's session.
