Richardson residents will get four council town hall meetings a year starting in January, one in each council district, after the City Council settled on a set of outreach changes at its Monday meeting, the city reported Friday.
Members took up all three ideas staff had put in front of them at the Oct. 12 work session. Besides the town halls, the council decided to stream its meetings live on Facebook, and plans are in place for short videos recapping the previous month's council actions, according to the city's Week in Review summary.
How the town halls will work
Mayor Amir Omar will moderate the meetings, and every council member is invited to take part, the city said. No town halls will be held during election season. The city describes the format as one meant for conversation, where residents can ask questions and raise concerns.
The idea grew out of the council's budget workshop for the 2027 fiscal year, according to the briefing slides.
Videos and Facebook
The recap videos would be produced by the Communications Department and read by council members, the city said. Staff had warned in the briefing that scripted updates would need captioning and review and would have to keep an individual member's opinion separate from an action of the full council.
