Penguins Win in Shootout

Rickard Rakell scored the deciding shootout goal, lifting the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins improved to 3-2-1 with seven points, while the Stars fell to 2-2-1 with five points.

The teams were tied 1-1 after regulation before Pittsburgh secured the result in the shootout. Ben Kindel scored for the Penguins, followed by Sidney Crosby. Dallas answered with goals from Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston, but Rakell's wrist shot gave Pittsburgh the final edge.

Third-Period Exchange

Neither team scored in the first or second period. Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third when Connor Dewar scored on a backhand, with Blake Lizotte assisting. It was Dewar's first goal of the game and gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

Dallas answered in the third period. Seguin scored on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen, to make it 1-1. Seguin finished with one goal, while Heiskanen recorded one assist for the Stars.

Records and Setting

The game remained even through the third period and the additional scoreless period listed before the shootout. The Penguins then prevailed through the shootout goals from Kindel, Crosby and Rakell. Dallas received shootout goals from Seguin and Johnston.

Dewar led Pittsburgh with one goal and one point, and Lizotte recorded one assist. Seguin led Dallas with one goal and one point, while Heiskanen had one assist. Attendance was 18,192.
