Liberty Junior High's new principal knows the campus better than most hires could: she went there.
Dr. Carrie Greer, who attended Liberty for seventh through ninth grade in the early 1990s, returns to the Richardson ISD campus as its principal after a 25-year career in education, NBC 5 reported.
The leadership pairing is what makes the story remarkable. Greer's new assistant principal is Doug Planey, who taught her seventh-grade math at Liberty during his own first year in the classroom.
When district officials offered Greer the principal role, they told her they intended to bring Planey back to serve alongside her, according to NBC 5's reporting.
Planey's Liberty roots run deeper still: he attended the school himself in the early 1980s, returned there for student teaching and landed his first teaching job on the campus.
