Plano West, Plano open district play with wins over Richardson foes

Plano West and Plano defeated Richardson opponents in their District 7-6A football openers on Friday.

Plano West secured a 52-20 victory over Richardson at Eagle-Mustang Stadium to begin its District 7-6A schedule. The Wolves trailed 7-7 early but scored 21 consecutive points to take control of the game.

Senior quarterback Blake Tevis completed 22 of 31 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns, adding a rushing score. Junior De’Andre Prince caught 10 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Plano West outgained Richardson 466-427 total yards but limited the Eagles to just 13 points after the first quarter.

Plano also opened district play with a win, defeating Richardson Pearce 21-9. The Wildcats overcame a 9-0 deficit by scoring 21 straight points. Junior Kameryn Brown rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, including a 2-yard score late in the game set up by senior Christian Bell’s interception.

In other local action, Coppell defeated Richardson Berkner 42-14. Junior quarterback Carter Zingelmann threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another score. Junior Jacob Anene caught three passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and sophomore Zavier Kichan added 117 yards and two scores.

Other area results included Prosper Walnut Grove beating McKinney 63-35, with senior Ashton Gosselin throwing for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Rowlett defeated South Garland 55-0 behind five touchdown passes from senior Samuel Loera. Mesquite Horn lost to Rockwall 69-48 despite junior Demaje Dandridge throwing for 518 yards and five touchdowns.
