William Richardson Jr., a former mayor of Waterford Township, has been selected to serve on the township committee in place of Robert Doney. Richardson Jr. will hold the position until December 31, 2026.
He previously served as mayor from 2016 to 2019 and remained active in local governance as a Class IV member of the Joint Land Use Board until his resignation at the August 12 meeting.
In his new role, Richardson Jr. will act as the liaison for several areas, including communications and the newsletter, veterans affairs, finance, the Board of Health, and the school board. He made his first appearance at the township’s August 12 meeting.
During that same session, a volunteer representative from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society presented information regarding the Bike MS: City to Shore Ride 2026. The event is scheduled for September 26 and 27. The presentation aimed to acknowledge the township’s ongoing support and highlight the ride’s impact on the multiple sclerosis community.
The volunteer noted that the Waterford Elementary School is a popular first stop for participants.
The ride begins at the PATCO Woodcrest Station in Cherry Hill and concludes at the Ocean City Civic Center. The route travels through South Jersey’s back roads and flat terrain, passing Hammonton’s blueberry fields and the Pinelands National Reserve. According to the source, the event raised $4.1 million last year with 3,500 cyclists and 1,000 volunteers participating.
