Richardson ISD announced Oct. 2 that 38 seniors were named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. The group includes students from all four district high schools: three from Berkner, five from Lake Highlands, 15 from Pearce and 15 from Richardson.

The recognition is based on performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. National Merit Scholarship Corporation says about 34,000 high scorers receive Commended recognition each year through letters sent to their schools.

Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships. Some may be considered for separate Special Scholarships sponsored by businesses. Semifinalist status is a different recognition that allows students to compete for Merit Scholarship awards.
