Richardson Independent School District has announced a series of safety measures and operational updates as the new school year approaches. The district states that student, staff, and visitor safety remains a top priority, with several proactive measures now in place to support academic growth.
A key requirement for the current school year involves identification badges. All RISD students must wear a badge throughout the school day. Additionally, every Pre-K through 12th-grade student who rides the school bus is required to wear and scan a district-issued badge each time they board and exit the bus.
These measures are designed to ensure students are on their assigned routes and to facilitate quick responses during delays, route changes, or emergencies.
Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 academic year, parents of bus riders will gain access to a new tracking feature. Through the Stopfinder Mobile App, families can monitor their child’s transportation route in real time.
The district also outlined broader security protocols. Every RISD campus is staffed with a full-time Campus Security Officer or School Resource Officer. Visitors to school facilities must follow entry procedures, which include showing an ID and signing in via the Verkada Guest System. The district continues to utilize its Code of Civility guidelines and the P3 program for anonymous reporting of safety-related tips.
RISD has adopted Sentinel, a new behavioral threat assessment platform, to help identify and respond to potential safety concerns. The district urges families to ensure their contact information is current in ParentSquare or by contacting the front office at their child’s school to facilitate emergency communications.
Other reminders for the upcoming year include adherence to the Stadium Bag Policy for sports and extracurricular events. Volunteers must complete a background check and orientation through the new volunteer management system, with registration opening later this month on the district website. In the event of an emergency, the district asks families to stay home, stay informed, and be ready.
