Following the November 2025 voter approval of the $1.4 billion Bond 2025 program, Richardson Independent School District (RISD) is advancing planning and scheduling for major capital projects. While the Middle School Transformation remains the primary focus for Years 1 through 2 (2026–2028), preliminary planning has begun for two additional facilities: a centralized Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center and an Environmental Science Center (ESC).
The new CTE Center will be constructed on district-owned land adjacent to the RISD Operations Center on Greenville Avenue. Facility design work is scheduled to start during the 2026–27 school year, with heavy construction planned for Years 3 through 5 of the Bond 2025 timeline.
Programming and design for the Career and Technical Education Center are set to begin in 2027, with completion anticipated in 2030.
The Environmental Science Center improvements were approved through Proposition A. These upgrades will focus on enhancing existing facilities and expanding outdoor learning spaces based on recommendations from the Environmental Science Committee. Active development and renovations are scheduled for Years 3 through 5 of the Bond 2025 program.
Phase 1 planning and programming for the ESC will begin in 2026, with construction expected to continue through 2029.
According to the district, these facilities will support the RISD North Star Goal by creating learning environments where students can grow and develop skills for college, careers, and life beyond graduation. The district states that expanded CTE programs, environmental science experiences, and innovative curriculum opportunities will provide access to hands-on learning intended to inspire curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and future-ready skills.
