Richardson ISD has been named a 2026-27 District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT). The district is one of 94 across the state to receive the designation, which recognizes innovation, dedication, and excellence in advancing career and technical education (CTE).

According to the announcement, the honor is awarded to districts that prepare students for workforce success through programs aligned with industry demands. CTAT states that honorees serve as models of excellence, showcasing best practices and driving progress in workforce education statewide. The designation recognizes districts of all sizes that demonstrate exceptional innovation, collaboration, and impact.

RISD CTE programs combine hands-on learning, real-world experiences, and partnerships with industry and higher education institutions. The district offers 31 career and technical programs of study, including Architecture and Construction, Digital Communications, Business Entrepreneurship, Healthcare, Robotics, and Culinary Arts.

For the 2025-26 school year, 78.4% of RISD high school students were enrolled in a CTE course. Additionally, 61% of seniors graduated with an industry-based certification, and 2,255 such certifications were earned district-wide. A total of 325 students earned Dallas College post-secondary credentials, including associate degrees and level 1 certificates.

The district operates several Real World Learning Spaces, including the Healthcare Careers Academy, a Credit Union of Texas location at Berkner High School, and salons powered by Toni & Guy at Berkner and Lake Highlands High Schools. Other facilities include the Omni Hospitality Hub and The Perch & Roost at Richardson High School, and Wildcat Corner at Lake Highlands High School.

As part of its North Star Goal, RISD aims to use these experiences to ensure students graduate prepared for college, career, and military service.
