Richardson ISD reschedules football games due to heat forecast

Richardson Independent School District has rescheduled several 9th grade, Junior Varsity, and Varsity football games originally planned for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Sept. 2-4. The district stated that the changes are due to forecasted heat this week, with the goal of prioritizing the safety of athletes, student performers, families, and fans.

The rescheduled games involve Berkner, Lake Highlands, Richardson, and JJ Pearce high schools. For Berkner High School, the 9th grade and JV games against Royce City are set for 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 3, while the Varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Lake Highlands High School will host Wylie with 9th grade and JV games starting at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, and the Varsity game at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4. Richardson High School’s games against Garland Naaman Forest are set for 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 2, with the Varsity game at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.

JJ Pearce High School’s games against McKinney Boyd include 9th grade and JV matchups on Sept. 3 and a Varsity game on Sept. 4.

The district noted that hydration stations will be available on both home and visitor sides of the Wildcat/Ram and Eagle/Mustang stadiums during periods of excessive heat. Spectators are permitted to bring empty plastic water bottles to fill after entry. Concessions and water will also be available for purchase.

The district expressed appreciation for the flexibility of families and the cooperation of competing teams’ athletic staff and administration in making these adjustments with safety in mind. Residents are advised to purchase tickets online or at the gate and review event policies and bag guidelines.
