Richardson is approximately 280 miles from Lubbock, the location of Texas Tech University.
The Red Raiders have secured their final opponent for the 2030 season by agreeing to host Texas State on September 14. According to a contract obtained via open-records request and reported by FBSchedules.com, Texas Tech must pay the Bobcats a guarantee of $1.2 million for the matchup.
This addition completes the non-conference schedule for that year. The season opens with a trip to Las Vegas on August 31 to play Arkansas at the Vegas Kickoff Classic. Fresno State will be hosted one week before the Texas State game.
Despite filling the 2030 slot, the program still needs opponents for 2027, 2028, and 2029. Mississippi State canceled a two-game series for 2028 and 2029 due to an SEC scheduling model change. North Carolina State bought out a 2027 home game in Lubbock, and Texas Tech purchased its way out of a 2027 road game against North Texas.
The Red Raiders currently have two non-conference home games set for each of the years 2027 through 2029. Financial guarantees for these future matchups range from $300,000 to $1 million. Other schedule changes include moving a 2034 home game against Arkansas from 2030 and shifting a 2033 road trip to Oregon from 2024 to preserve the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry.
