TCU’s 21-13 loss at Central Florida has intensified the quarterback debate before the Horned Frogs host No. 9 BYU on Oct. 3. The result left TCU 2-2 overall and 0-2 against Power Four opponents, while both teams opened Big 12 play with the game in Orlando.
Jaden Craig remains listed ahead of sophomore Adam Schobel. Craig, who transferred from Harvard during the offseason, has thrown for 485 yards on 45 completions in 72 attempts against North Carolina and UCF. He has two interceptions, no touchdown passes and 10 rushing attempts for minus-38 yards in those games, with sacks included in college rushing statistics.
Schobel did not appear as a freshman in 2025 and has one pass attempt this season.
TCU’s offense is averaging 11.5 points per game after the first month. Against UCF, the Horned Frogs were penalized 11 times for 86 yards, gave up a two-turnover margin and averaged 1.2 yards on each rushing attempt. The team had hoped to open 4-0 and bring ESPN’s “College GameDay” to Fort Worth for the BYU matchup.
A change could carry financial and personnel consequences because Craig signed with TCU for more money than Schobel. TCU might stay with Craig against BYU, while Schobel’s first start could come at Baylor on Oct. 17 after the bye week. Coach Sonny Dykes has previously changed quarterbacks after injuries, including turning to Max Duggan in 2022 and Josh Hoover in 2023.
