The round trip for the Cowboys is expected to total nearly 10,500 miles, an NFL record for an international trip without a following bye.
The game is set for 5:25 p.m. local time in Rio, one hour ahead of Eastern Time. CBS Sports’ schedule analysis indicates the teams may not leave Brazil until after midnight, and Dallas’ return flight is expected to take more than 10 hours. The Cowboys could arrive back in Dallas near noon on Monday.
Both teams are scheduled to play in Week 4. Dallas will visit the Houston Texans, while Baltimore is slated to host the Tennessee Titans.
Earlier long-distance NFL trips included the Rams’ 5,456-mile flight to London last season, followed by a bye, and a Week 1 trip of more than 7,800 miles by the Rams and 49ers to Australia, followed by at least 10 days before their next games. Before this matchup, Denver’s 4,670-mile flight to London in Week 6 last season was the largest trip without a subsequent bye.
