The Dallas Cowboys have made roster changes in response to Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith being placed on injured reserve due to a thumb injury that requires surgery. Smith is anticipated to be out for four to six weeks, leading the Cowboys to promote veteran lineman Nick Leverett from the practice squad to the active roster.
While Leverett joins the team, he is not expected to start right away. Instead, T.J. Bass will likely step in as the starting left guard, bringing experience with 10 career starts and familiarity with the Cowboys' offensive system.
In addition to Leverett's promotion, the Cowboys have added veteran offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson to their practice squad. Tomlinson, a first-round draft pick in 2015 by the Detroit Lions, has significant experience, having started 162 games in his career, including seven games last season with the Houston Texans. These roster moves reflect the Cowboys' efforts to maintain a stable offensive line as the season progresses.
