Houston has increased the maximum value of Trent Brown’s 2026 playtime incentives from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti reported the revised terms Sept. 16 in a post on X.
Brown can receive five separate $500,000 bonuses for reaching playtime marks of 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously reported that the changes do not alter Brown’s salary-cap charge or initial cash flow, because the added incentives were placed on top of the original package.
The Texans re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason to a one-year, $5.5 million contract. He started seven regular-season games and one playoff game for Houston in 2025, with injuries affecting the start and finish of his season. Houston also signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million contract, but Smith went on injured reserve after injuries kept him from taking the starting job.
Brown stayed with the Texans through the offseason program and started at right tackle in Week 1. Pro Football Focus rated him Houston’s sixth-best pass blocker and third-highest-rated offensive lineman in that category in Week 1. Brown, drafted by San Francisco in the 2015 seventh round, has played for the 49ers, Bengals and Raiders, starting 104 of 111 career games.
He won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018 and has not started every regular-season game in a season since 2022.
