Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is unlikely to play Saturday against Louisiana Tech as he recovers from an ankle injury, although his status could change before the Sept. 26 meeting with Colorado. The Bears are taking a cautious approach, and Lagway was expected to practice with the team during the week.
Lagway hurt the ankle in Baylor's 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. He remained in the game and produced 333 yards through the air, two touchdown throws and one interception. A wrap was visible on the injured ankle afterward.
The injury kept him out against Prairie View A&M, when Nate Bennett completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards in Baylor's 44-3 win. Bennett also threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score.
Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway felt good at Sunday's practice. On3 reporter Pete Nakos reported that Lagway is expected to be ready for the Colorado game. Baylor will play Louisiana Tech before starting Big 12 competition, while Colorado is set to play Northwestern before its trip to Baylor.
The Sept. 26 road matchup is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT and could feature Lagway against Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis if Lagway returns. Source: si.com
