Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway's status remains uncertain as he deals with an ankle injury, which has led to him being classified as day-to-day, according to head coach Dave Aranda. The decision regarding Lagway's participation in the upcoming game against Prairie View A&M on Saturday will hinge on how he performs in practice this week.

In his debut game with Baylor, Lagway threw for 333 yards, completing 27 of 54 passes, and recorded two touchdowns, but also had one interception in a close 17-16 loss to Auburn. The Bears missed a critical two-point conversion attempt that contributed to their defeat.

Auburn's head coach Alex Golesh commended Lagway's toughness, noting that he continued to play despite his injury. Golesh remarked, "If you’ve got any question on how tough that kid is... he got banged up early, and that is a tough, tough football player."

Lagway, who transferred to Baylor after two seasons at Florida, was a highly touted recruit ranked No. 3 in his class. He had a challenging tenure at Florida, finishing the previous season with 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, while the Gators ended with a 4-8 record.

Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, suggested that Lagway needed a fresh start and expressed optimism about his potential at Baylor.
