SMU senior Enzo Panozzo has received the Atlantic Coast Conference's co-defensive player of the week award, SMU Athletics reported. The conference announced the honor Tuesday, naming Panozzo alongside Notre Dame's Blake Kelly.
Panozzo, a Sarasota, Florida, native, captained the Mustangs in their ACC home opener and scored the only goal in the victory over NC State. SMU's defense limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target, as the Mustangs posted their fifth shutout of the season.
This is Panozzo's first ACC weekly award and SMU's second conference weekly honor this season. Following the win, SMU moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Mustangs are 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play, with conference action scheduled to resume Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
