The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition in the receiving lineup after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other players such as DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism further restricted his chances to play.
Head coach Mike Vrabel stated that the trade was advantageous for Boutte, providing him with an opportunity to be more active with the Texans instead of sitting out games in New England. He acknowledged the depth at the wide receiver position, saying, "That was one place where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing."
Boutte's lack of special teams experience likely contributed to his inactivity. Last season, he played in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns, a career high. As he joins the Texans, Boutte is anticipated to back up established starters Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel, though his specific role remains unclear.
