The Houston Texans have re-signed defensive tackle Junior Tafuna to their practice squad, as announced on social media on September 2, 2026. This marks his return to the team after he initially played for them during his rookie season following his undrafted status in 2025.

Tafuna was waived by the Texans on August 5 and was claimed by the New York Jets the next day. However, he was released during the Jets' roster cuts. Now back in Houston, Tafuna is anticipated to provide additional depth to a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

During his time at Utah, Tafuna accumulated a total of 108 combined tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss. He also recorded three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one forced fumble throughout his four seasons. Analysts have observed that while he may not possess all the ideal characteristics typically sought in interior defenders, his athleticism could attract teams.

Lance Zierlein from NFL.com noted that Tafuna is tough at the point of attack and capable of handling double-teams, although he has a limited margin for error.

Further updates regarding Tafuna's role and performance with the Texans are expected as the season unfolds.
