Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after facing difficulties during his time at the University of Florida. Lagway, who was highly regarded as the No. 3 ranked player in his class, entered Florida with significant expectations as the successor to Graham Mertz.
After Mertz's injury in the sixth game, Lagway became the starter, leading the Gators to a 5-1 record in the final six games, which included notable wins against ranked opponents.
However, Lagway's second season did not go as planned. He encountered injuries and faced numerous challenges, including a disappointing loss to South Florida, which marked Florida's first defeat against the Bulls. A particularly tough game against LSU saw Lagway throw five interceptions, contributing to an overall disappointing record of 4-8 for the Gators, resulting in the firing of head coach Billy Napier.
In search of a fresh start, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and subsequently signed with Baylor, where he will compete under head coach Dave Aranda. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow commented on Lagway's move, suggesting that a new environment could help him thrive, given the pressures he faced at Florida.
Lagway's first game with Baylor is set to be against Auburn, a significant matchup for both him and Coach Aranda as they look to improve from last season's performance. This game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, starting at 3:30 PM (ET) on ABC.
