Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country Allocates $82 Million in Recovery Aid

Denison, Texas — A year after devastating floods impacted the Texas Hill Country, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has reported distributing approximately $82 million in recovery assistance to survivors in the affected areas. The foundation, based in Kerrville, initiated its relief fund on July 4, 2025, coinciding with the onset of the flooding that resulted in over 130 fatalities.

With total donations surpassing $150 million, this initiative stands as one of the largest privately led disaster recovery efforts in Texas history. Foundation CEO Austin Dickson, who personally experienced loss due to the floods, expressed that the anniversary evokes both sorrow and a sense of hope.

The foundation swiftly allocated $15 million within 45 days to over 50 local nonprofits providing essential financial and crisis support.

As recovery efforts progressed, the focus shifted toward long-term needs, with about one-third of the funding directed to housing assistance. Approximately 130 families have returned to repaired homes, while 98 households are in the process of transitioning to permanent housing. Additionally, the foundation has invested in mental health services, funding access to therapists for survivors, who are at a heightened risk for post-traumatic stress.

To enhance future disaster preparedness, the foundation has reserved $10 million for a readiness and resilience fund. While significant progress has been made, nearly half of the raised funds remain available as rebuilding efforts continue across the region.
