Extra-Inning Breakthrough
The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The contest remained scoreless through the first nine innings before both clubs found their way to the plate in the tenth. A combined 29,309 fans witnessed the back-and-forth action that concluded with a Rangers victory.
Tenth-Inning Drama
The Angels took the lead in the top of the tenth inning. Siri scored on a double to left field by Guzman, putting the away team ahead 1-0. The Rangers responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame. Langford drove in a run with a double to right field, allowing Carter to score and tying the game at 1-1. The decisive moment came when Duran reached on an infield single to third base. Langford scored on a throwing error by third baseman Guzman, giving the home team a 2-1 lead. Nimmo advanced to second base on the play.
Pitching Performance
Tyler Alexander earned the winning decision in relief. He pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one walk, and no earned runs while striking out two batters. For the Angels, Ben Joyce took the loss. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, surrendering two hits and one walk while striking out one batter. The Rangers’ starting pitcher, MacKenzie Gore, delivered a strong performance over six innings. He retired the first three batters he faced, allowing two hits, one walk, and no earned runs while striking out seven. Cole Winn followed with a scoreless inning, allowing no hits, no walks, and striking out two batters. Chase Silseth and Jacob Latz each pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no hits and striking out one and two batters respectively. For the Angels, Reid Detmers started the game, pitching six innings. He allowed six hits, one walk, and no earned runs while striking out five batters. Jose Fermin, Tayler Saucedo, and Ryan Watson each pitched a scoreless inning. Fermin allowed one hit and struck out one, Saucedo allowed one hit with no strikeouts, and Watson allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out three. The final score was Texas Rangers 2, Los Angeles Angels 1.
