Power Surge in the Second
The Cleveland Guardians established early dominance in the second inning, capitalizing on Texas Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore’s struggles. After a sacrifice bunt moved Rocchio to scoring position, consecutive wild pitches by Gore allowed Arias to score, followed by another run on a second wild pitch that also advanced Hedges and Schneemann.
The inning’s momentum shifted decisively when Fry launched a 380-foot home run to right center, driving in Hedges and Schneemann for a three-run blast. This sequence gave Cleveland a 5-0 lead and effectively set the tone for the remainder of the contest at Progressive Field.
Guardians Extend Lead
Cleveland added to their advantage in the third inning when Higashioka walked, allowing Foscue to score. The Rangers challenged the call on the field, but the umpires upheld the decision, preserving the 5-1 deficit. The Guardians’ lead grew in the sixth inning as Higashioka scored on a groundout by Díaz, and Lopez doubled to left field to bring Osuna home, making it 5-3.
Cleveland continued to pile on runs in the seventh. DeLauter singled to right, scoring Kwan, and later scored on a wild pitch by Texas reliever Winston Santos after Hoskins walked. The Rangers managed to get on the board in the eighth when Díaz homered to left center, cutting the margin to 7-4.
However, the Guardians immediately responded with their own power display. Hedges hit a 400-foot home run to left center, scoring Watson and extending the lead to 9-4.
