The New York Mets secured a decisive 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday, fueled by a dramatic four-run explosion in the ninth inning. The win improved the Mets’ record to 73-85, while the Rangers fell to 78-80 on the season.

New York jumped out to an early lead in the third inning when Juan Soto launched a 429-foot home run to right center. The blast drove in two runs, giving the Mets a 2-0 advantage that held until the fifth inning.

Rangers Fight Back

Texas answered in the bottom of the fifth. Marcus Semien’s single scored one run, narrowing the gap to 2-1. In the same frame, the Rangers tied the game at 2-2 when Josh Jung singled to left, bringing home Corey Seager. The Mets’ bullpen worked to maintain that tie through the middle innings.

Nolan McLean earned the win for New York, pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out five batters. Devin Williams provided a perfect eighth inning, recording one strikeout without allowing a hit or walk. Cionel Perez closed out the eighth with no runs allowed in his one-inning outing.

Semien Continues Hot Streak

Semien broke the tie in the eighth inning with a 388-foot home run to left center, putting Texas ahead 3-2. The Rangers’ starters struggled to contain the Mets' power long enough to hold the lead. Cody Bradford took the loss for Texas, giving up two earned runs on four hits over 4.1 innings.

Ninth Inning Collapse

The game turned decisively in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a sacrifice fly to score a run, making it 4-3. Then, with runners on second and third, Adolis García’s single scored two more runs, extending the lead to 6-3.

The final blow came when Nathaniel Lowe doubled down the right-field line, scoring the seventh run of the game. The Mets’ offense erupted for four runs in the frame, overcoming the Rangers’ earlier advantage. Jacob Latz, who entered in relief, gave up two earned runs in his 1.2 innings of work.
