Manny Machado delivered the decisive blow for the San Diego Padres with a three-run home run in the 10th inning, finishing with five runs batted in to secure a 6-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday. Machado’s solo shot to left-center field, measuring 408 feet, broke a 3-3 tie and proved to be the game-winner.
He also contributed an earlier single-run double in the third inning and a run-scoring groundout in the eighth.
Game Progression
The Padres took an early lead in the third inning when Machado doubled to center field, allowing Fernando Tatis Jr. to score, making it 1-0. The Rangers tied the game in the sixth inning when Josh Jung scored on a double by Evan Carter, putting the score at 1-1.
San Diego regained the lead in the seventh inning when Jake Burger homered to right-center field, a 408-foot blast that scored two runs and made the score 3-1. The Rangers responded in the eighth inning with two runs of their own.
First, a groundout by Tatis Jr. scored a run to make it 3-2, followed by a run-scoring single by Jurickson Profar that tied the game at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the top of the 10th inning. Machado’s three-run homer shifted the momentum, giving San Diego a 6-3 lead. The Rangers managed one final run in the bottom of the 10th when Adolis García scored on an infield single by Carter, making the final score 6-4.
