The sales tax holiday is scheduled from August 7 through August 9, 2026. During this period, many items will be exempt from state and local sales tax, which can total up to 8.25 percent.
Eligible items include most clothing and footwear priced under $100 each, student backpacks (up to 10 per purchase), and a specific list of school supplies, all under $100. The tax exemption applies to purchases made in Texas stores or online from Texas-based sellers. However, certain items are not eligible, such as jewelry, handbags, watches, computers, and clothing designed mainly for athletic or protective use.
Additionally, rentals and alteration or cleaning services do not qualify for the tax exemption. Shoppers will not need a coupon or exemption certificate, as the discount will be applied automatically at checkout for qualifying items.
