Dallas Area Rapid Transit is marking the first year of its Silver Line, the 26-mile rail line that ties Richardson and six other cities to DFW International Airport, with a collection of comments from city, university and airport leaders.
The line opened Oct. 25, 2025, with a daylong celebration at its 10 stations. It was DART's first rail expansion in a decade and runs between Plano and the airport, also serving Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Grapevine, Dallas and Richardson. With the Silver Line, DFW Airport now has three direct rail connections, along with TEXRail and DART's Orange Line, the agency said.
What Richardson's leaders said
City Manager Don Magner said in the release that connecting UT Dallas, the city's job centers and the airport helps Richardson draw investment and workers, and gives residents, students and businesses more ways to get around. He pointed to new trail links and to the arches over U.S. 75 that were recently lit, calling them a gateway to the city.
UT Dallas President Prabhas Moghe said the line has widened access to the campus and connected students, faculty and staff with opportunities around North Texas. A commuter quoted by DART said the train has shortened his trip, lets him work on a laptop at the tabletop desks and costs less in a month than he would pay in tolls.
Leaders from DFW Airport and the town of Addison also weighed in. Addison Mayor Bruce Arfsten said riders have used the line to reach the town's Kaboom Town! and Oktoberfest events and that infrastructure work on Addison Junction, a dining and entertainment district beside the station, is set to begin soon.
