Darrion Williams has signed with Texas Tech for the 2026-27 season, marking his return to the program after a year away. Head coach Grant McCasland confirmed the signing, as Williams previously played at NC State last season.
Williams began his college career at Nevada before joining Texas Tech, where he had an All-Big 12 First Team junior year in 2024-25. During that season, he averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors and helping the Red Raiders reach the Elite Eight in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
At NC State, he led the Wolfpack with an average of 14.0 points per game, along with 151 rebounds, 92 assists, and 35 steals.
The opportunity for Williams to return stems from a recent court ruling by a U.S. District Court judge in Colorado. The ruling allows players from the high school class of 2022, who have exhausted their fourth season of college eligibility, to compete for a fifth season this year.
This decision has impacted rosters nationwide, as programs had to adjust to the availability of veteran players after the regular recruiting period.
For Texas Tech fans, Williams’ return means Williams will remain in the conference. The Red Raiders are set to open their season in the fall, with Williams’ performance expected to be compared to his previous achievements in Lubbock.
