RICHARDSON, Texas — The Richardson Fire Department marked a century of service Saturday with a centennial celebration at Fire Headquarters Station 1, honoring generations of firefighters who have served the community since 1926.
The event featured remarks from speakers, a display of historic firefighting artifacts, station tours, and touch-a-truck activities for families. The department traces its origins to April 9, 1926, when it was formed with just 20 volunteers, a used pickup truck, and donated equipment.
“For 100 years, the Richardson Fire Department has answered the call,” the city said in announcing the event. “From fires and severe weather to medical emergencies and moments of crisis, generations of firefighters have been there when our community needed them most.”
The centennial comes as Richardson continues to grow as both a residential community and a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology. The fire department, which now operates multiple stations across the city, has evolved alongside that growth over the past century.
