Astros pull away at home
Houston beat Toronto 7-2 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park, using Trammell’s three-run homer and two run-scoring singles from Altuve to build the margin. The home run was the only one of the game, and it turned a one-run Houston lead into a 6-2 advantage in the fifth inning.
The Astros finished with seven runs, while the Blue Jays scored twice. Attendance was 30,450 in Houston, Texas.
Fourth inning starts the scoring
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Diaz singled to left, scoring Altuve and moving Trammell to second for a 1-0 Houston lead.
Smith followed with a single to left. Trammell scored on the play, Smith was safe at second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, and Diaz was safe at third on the error. That made it 2-0 Astros.
Toronto ties it, then Houston answers
Toronto came back in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center, scoring Giménez to cut the Houston lead to 2-1. Straw then scored on a Wesneski wild pitch, tying the game at 2.
Houston responded in the bottom of the fifth. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second for a 3-2 lead. Trammell followed with a 388-foot homer to right, scoring Walker and Altuve and extending the lead to 6-2.
The Astros added another run in the seventh when Altuve singled to center and Walker scored, producing the final 7-2 margin.
Pitching and records
Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, allowing four hits and two earned runs over six innings. He walked two and struck out four. Bennett Sousa pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one hit with no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.
Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, allowing seven hits and six earned runs in three innings. He walked four and struck out three. Trey Yesavage pitched two innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts. Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Mason Fluharty also pitched for Toronto.
Houston improved to 59-56. Toronto fell to 53-61.
