The Richardson Fire Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday, June 27, at Fire Headquarters and Station 1, located at 300 N. Greenville Ave. The event begins at 10 a.m. and commemorates the department’s founding on April 9, 1926, when the city established its first unit with 20 volunteers, a used pickup truck, and donated equipment.
Attendees can view historic artifacts, take station tours, and participate in a touch-a-truck activity.
Regarding the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival, the City Council has directed staff to implement changes starting in 2027. These adjustments follow a presentation highlighting that operating costs exceed revenue, necessitating a significant city subsidy.
The new structure will reduce the event from three days to two, held on Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The festival footprint will shrink to four stages, removing the Plaza Stage, and VIP sponsor tickets will be redistributed for public sale to improve cost recovery and reduce overtime.
Additionally, the city announced holiday schedules for the Fourth of July. Solid waste, recycling, and Brush and Bulky Item Collection services will not operate on Friday, July 3, with no make-up day for trash. Recycling make-up days vary by original collection day.
