Man, 56, dies after early morning shooting in Dallas

Dallas police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 56-year-old man dead in the city's southern sector.

Dallas is located approximately 12 miles south of Richardson.

A 56-year-old man has died following an early morning shooting in southern Dallas, according to police reports. Authorities responded to the incident at approximately 2:15 a.m. on July 2 in the 3500 block of La France Street.

Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel transported the victim, identified as Charles Baldwin, to a local hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries there.

Initial findings from the investigation indicate that Baldwin was shot by an individual known to him, police stated. The specific identity of the suspect has not been released, nor have further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting.

The case will be referred to a grand jury. Under Texas law, homicide cases where potential justification or legal defenses may apply are often presented to a grand jury to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information about the suspect or the events leading up to the shooting has been provided at this time.
