Richardson Police Sergeant Kelly Pagel helped transport the Special Olympics Flame of Hope from North Texas to Minneapolis as a member of the Final Leg Team. Her role involved escorting the torch into the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, which are currently underway in Minnesota.

Pagel’s participation included multiple stages of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a nationwide campaign that raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics programs. During the journey, she and other officers paddled the torch down the Mississippi River before reaching the host city.

The national games, running from June 20 through June 26, feature thousands of athletes, coaches, and volunteers from all 50 states competing in various sports. The event emphasizes inclusion, achievement, and community spirit. Pagel’s efforts have contributed to raising awareness for Special Olympics Texas.
