Andrew Nguyen, a native of Richardson, has been named the new manager of Dallas Trinity FC. The appointment marks a return to the North Texas region for the former professional soccer player, who previously coached youth teams in the area during the pandemic.

Nguyen brings a decorated playing background to the role. He was a finalist for the 2014 MLS Most Valuable Player Award and earned a spot in the MLS Best XI. His career includes helping the New England Revolution reach the MLS Cup Final and winning the 2019 Supporters’ Shield with LAFC. He also made nine appearances for the United States Men’s National Team.

Born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Nguyen played youth soccer for the Dallas Texans. He later starred at Plano East Senior High School and Indiana University. A dual citizen of the United States and Vietnam, he was the first American to play in Vietnam’s top professional league.

His path to coaching began when he returned to North Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic. He coached girls’ teams for the Dallas Texans, an experience that helped transition him from playing to management. He now returns to lead the club into a new phase.

Nguyen expressed enthusiasm about the role in a statement. He described the opportunity as incredible and noted the club’s strong foundation. He stated he is eager to work with players, staff, and supporters to build on that progress. He also emphasized his desire to help shape the club’s future and grow the women’s game in the community.

The club announced that outgoing First Team Manager Nathan Thackeray and Technical Director Chris Petrucelli have departed. Thackeray thanked the organization for the opportunity to lead the team and the fans for their support. He expressed pride in the group’s accomplishments and wished the club success, though he noted disappointment at not returning for the next season.

Details regarding the specific timeline of Nguyen’s start date or the structure of his coaching staff were not provided in the announcement.
