Elvira Peralta Hernandez, 42, died after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing West Spring Valley Road in Richardson on Saturday morning. The collision occurred around 11:05 a.m. in the 1400 block of the street, according to the Richardson Police Department.
Responding officers located Hernandez on the roadway after the westbound vehicle struck her. Paramedics from the Richardson Fire Department transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver stayed at the scene and did not sustain injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate Hernandez was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk. The city recently installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons and Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons at crosswalks along this section of Spring Valley Road to improve safety. The Special Crash Investigation Team is managing the inquiry. Further details regarding the circumstances remain unclear.
