Richardson ISD is joining schools and communities across the country on Friday, September 18, to celebrate AVID Day. The nationwide event honors the work of educators, students, and families who use the Advancement Via Individual Determination framework to expand access and opportunity.

The program is based on the belief that all students deserve the skills, support, and confidence necessary to succeed in college, careers, and beyond.

In Richardson ISD, AVID helps students strengthen critical thinking, organization, collaboration, and self-advocacy skills. The district is highlighting the impact of the program through four AVID National Demonstration Schools: Richardson High School, Berkner High School, Richardson West Arts and Technology Magnet, and Yale Elementary. These campuses serve as models for schools across the country and demonstrate a pursuit of excellence to ensure college readiness.

The district states that the commitment to the AVID framework supports improved academic performance for all students through a more equitable, student-centered approach to learning.

AVID Day also serves as an opportunity to elevate student voice. Students and educators across the district are reflecting on their experiences by completing the phrase “Because of AVID, I…” and sharing what the program has made possible for them. The district invites families and community partners to join the celebration by following along on social media using the hashtag #MyAVIDWhy.

The event underscores the district's view that investing in students and working with purpose opens doors to long-term success. For more information about AVID in Richardson ISD, residents can visit the district's AVID webpage.
