Richardson Council to Vote on Zoning Amendments for Home-Based Businesses

Zoning Code Updates

The Richardson City Council will review city-initiated amendments to Appendix A of the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance during its June 15, 2026 meeting.

The proposed action focuses on modifying Article I, Section 2 of the Code of Ordinances to update the definition for home occupations.

The amendments also introduce a formal definition for home-based businesses with no impact.

Residential District Changes

The proposal would add the home-based business classification to the use regulations of nine specific residential districts.

These districts include R-1500-M, R-2000-M, R-1800-M, R-1250-M, R-1100-M, R-1000-M, R-950-M, R-850-F, and R-850-M.

Each affected section would be updated to recognize the new use category under Article IV, Article IV-A, Article IV-B, Article VI, Article VII, Article VIII, Article IX, Article XI, and Article XII.

Supplemental Regulations

The council will also consider changes to Article XXII-E, which covers supplemental regulations for certain uses.

The amendment would add a new Section 10 titled home occupations and home-based businesses with no impact.

The proposed text would establish the regulatory framework for these specific residential uses.
