Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino is out for the season after a leg injury in Saturday's game against Prairie View A&M, coach Dave Aranda confirmed afterward. The fifth-year senior from Killeen was hurt on Baylor's second offensive snap from scrimmage, when a Prairie View A&M offensive lineman used a cut block. Tezino summoned medical personnel and was eventually taken off the field in a cart.
Tezino opened the season with two sacks and a tipped pass that became an interception against Auburn. Aranda said Tezino had been playing the best football of his career before the injury. He had dealt with injuries last fall but played in all 12 games, starting seven.
His statistics that season included 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup. Across 29 games at Baylor, he has 56 tackles.
Baylor has depth on its defensive line, but Tezino is the second starter the team has lost for the season. Safety Jacob Redding is the other player identified as having a season-ending injury. SicEm365 reported the injury and Aranda's comments.
