Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the remainder of the season after being injured in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. Tezino had recorded two sacks against Auburn, making an early impact for the team.

Coach Dave Aranda had named Tezino among Baylor’s top performers at defensive tackle after the season opener. Aranda said Tezino’s development had required substantial work, and that effort will be missed. The injury is expected to increase the workload for Baylor’s other defensive linemen.

Braylen Jackson could see a larger role. He has helped Baylor against the run, and Aranda said the physical player’s run defense gives the team confidence. Baylor began the season viewing its defensive line as a major strength, but Tezino’s absence will challenge the unit’s depth for the rest of the schedule.

The Bears were also without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
