The Dallas Cowboys have released running back Israel Abanikanda and added Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons, following a 69-yard rushing performance against the New York Giants in Week 1. The roster move opens a spot for Goodson.
Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets in 2023. Before that, he carried 239 times for Pitt in 2022, gaining 1,431 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. He did not secure a consistent position in an NFL backfield before Dallas made the change.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front affected the running game early by creating penetration, and he said Dallas was outplayed physically at the line of scrimmage.
