Dallas Cowboys running back Malik Davis has been fined $6,735 for unnecessary roughness during a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. The infraction took place in the first quarter at the 12:07 mark, following a five-yard carry. Although there was no penalty during the game, the NFL issued the fine afterward as part of its standard review process for preseason infractions.
Davis is the only player from the Cowboys to receive a fine this preseason. The highest fine recorded in the league during this time was $12,537, given to Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Tytus Howard for a similar violation.
Currently, Davis is in his second year of a two-year, $2.1 million contract, with a base salary of $1.1 million for 2026. The fine amounts to approximately 0.6% of his salary. All NFL fines are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation, which aids athletes in need and promotes health and safety initiatives.
Davis has been competing for the backup running back position against Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. Following the roster decisions, Blue was cut and has since joined the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad, while Mafah remains a free agent. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Davis for his consistent performance and value to the team, especially in comparison to his competitors.
