The Cowboys reportedly added Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after backup running back Malik Davis sustained a hip injury requiring surgery. Davis will miss the rest of the season, giving Dallas another option in its reshaped backfield.
Before the move, Emari Demercado handled the No. 2 role against the Giants. He ran twice for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams, who had 12 of Dallas’ 18 rushing attempts and added five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Goodson played for Indianapolis over the past three seasons, appearing in 33 games and carrying 54 times for 264 yards, or 4.9 yards per attempt. He also logged 304 special teams snaps over the last two seasons, a role Dallas will need to fill with Davis unavailable.
Goodson was released by Green Bay before joining the Colts, then spent time with Atlanta’s training camp and practice squad before Dallas signed him. His final Iowa season included 1,151 rushing yards, six touchdowns, an All-Big Ten selection and a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.
