Von Miller, originally from DeSoto and a former Texas A&M player, has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million with performance incentives. This signing is significant for Miller, who is enthusiastic about playing for his hometown team.

At 37 years old, Miller proved his effectiveness last season by recording nine sacks. His career includes two Super Bowl championships, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, making him a valuable addition to the Cowboys' roster. Analysts have mixed views on whether this signing will significantly enhance the team's pass rush, but it is expected to strengthen the outside linebacker (OLB) depth.

The Cowboys are projected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku as starters. Miller and Malachi Lawrence are anticipated to serve as primary backups, while James Houston is likely to secure a spot due to his contributions last season.

The competition for the final OLB position includes Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, with Liufau possibly having an advantage due to his versatility and special teams performance. The expected OLB depth chart features Gary, Ezeiruaku, Lawrence, Miller, Houston, and Liufau.
